For the duration of the Philippine Hobie Challenge 2019, all sailors will be sun protected by Blood Red’s custom UPF50+ rash guards. There’s hardly a better way to test and prove our rash guard performance, so we have designed this batch specifically for PHC 2019. This unique journey sees sailors on the water for 5 to 8 hours per day because they’ll cover roughly 250 nautical miles in a week’s time. This is now the 9th year in a row that Blood Red is supporting the event. It’s a privilege not often granted to many brands.
The Challenge
Yes, it’s a serious sailing adventure where both novice and seasoned sailors from around the world experience a unique event. Philippine Hobie Challenge combines hardcore sailing with two other things: gallivanting between picturesque islands, and outreach activities for local communities. The going can get tough because of occasional quirks from the weather, and the competition level is high. Former Olympians, Hobie Worlds Champions, SEA Games medalists, other national athletes, as well as novices compete for the trophies.
The Route
Now on its 19th year, the Philippine Hobie Challenge starts its week-long voyage on February 16, 2019 by revisiting Donsol in Sorsogon. They will sail off from the black-sand beaches made famous by annual visits of whale sharks, the world’s biggest fish. Then they’ll stop at the peculiar pink sands of Subic Beach before hitting picturesque Balanguigue island. From there they swing further south towards Cebu Province, stopping at Carnaza Island, then southwest to Guintacan Island. It’s a westward finish at Sicogon Island which is just off Panay Island.
